About us
The Song School is a Community Interest Company with the purpose of: creating communities for music making, accessible for everyone regardless of circumstances.
We bring children & young people together from all circumstances to contribute to a more fair and understanding society, with the ultimate aim of contributing to a music industry that is more reflective of it’s audience.
The Song School is breaking down the barriers associated with learning, making and working in music. Including high tuition fees, access to instruments & equipment, practice spaces, training and alternative pathways to industry.
We have developed three core aims to support the development of our programmes:
Let’s make music!
“Contribute to creating a music industry that is reflective of its audience”
“Be a beacon of change for the resilience of our young people, in society”
“Support young people with neurodivergence to find their way in the world”
Current landscape
“Huge disparities in participation in extra-curricular activities exist depending on social background”
“Send crisis in England risks creating ‘lost generation’ of children”
“Urgent referrals of children in mental health crisis in England rise 13% in year”
“A pricing model that funds free places for children from low-income households. Creates a community of young people with shared experiences on both sides, encouraging participation & understanding”
TSS solutions
“Peer led learning celebrating individual achievement, without pressures of testing well or conforming. Celebrating difference helping all children to thrive together, reducing isolation”
“CPD to enable staff to develop strategies of prevention through music and support where there are challenges Focus on transition periods such as junior - senior & into adulthood to aid resilience ”
