The BIG Busk 2026

  • Southend High Street High Street Southend-on-sea United Kingdom (map)

A summer of street music to raise money for The Song School Fund.

From 1st July to 7th September, we're inviting musicians of all ages and abilities to busk in Southend and raise money so more young people can access music education.

You don't need to be a member of The Song School. You just need to want to play.

How it works

  1. Get in touch — Complete the form below. Use the message area to tell us a bit about yourself and what you play and why you want to support The Song School.

  2. Collect your kit — We'll provide everything you need: signage, a collection bucket, and a QR code so passers-by can donate online too. Pick it up from our studio at 30 Alexandra Street (just off the high street) and return it when you're done.

  3. Pick your spot and play — Choose your pitch, set up, and do your thing. Play for 20 minutes or 2 hours — it's up to you.

  4. Return your kit and feel good — Drop everything back to us and know that every penny goes to The Song School Fund.

Who can take part?

Anyone who plays music. Singers, guitarists, drummers, saxophonists, ukulele players, beat-boxers - if you can perform, you can busk.

  • You don't need to be a member of The Song School

  • Solo or in a group - both welcome

  • All ages (under 16s must be accompanied by a parent or guardian)

If you're not sure whether it's for you, get in touch - we'd love to hear from you.

What you’re raising money for

The Song School’s mission is to level access to music for all children and young people regardless of circumstances, so all can experience the benefits associated with learning and playing music such as enhanced confidence, self-esteem, improved mental wellbeing and academic aspirations. The Song School Fund provides the following:

  • Free and subsidised places so children and young people from low-income households can attend The Song School. The fund also helps to keep class costs affordable for everyone else.

  • Spaces and sessions that support neurodivergent children and young people to feel safe, supported and thrive. In a world built for the neurotypical, we have re-imagined the approach to music education so those who think differently can thrive.

  • The fund also supports instrument and studio upkeep, repairs and purchase - benefitting our whole community. Right now, we’re building a sensory garden and we’re exploring upgrades to three of our studios, to improve the sound during rehearsals.

Can’t busk? You can still help

If busking isn't your thing, you can support The Big Busk by donating directly to The Song School Fund. Every donation helps us plan confidently for the new academic year in September.
