The Song School announces their first Jack Petchey achievement award winners

Our usual Christmas party for our young people this year included an additional feature as this term, they have been nominating their peers in our first ever Jack Petchey Achievement Awards.

What are the achievement awards?

The achievement awards recognises outstanding young people aged 11-25 across London and Essex. The scheme supports The Song School to celebrate the achievements of our young people and apply for a package of grants, to support the development of our programmes.

All of our young people define the type of support we might need and the award winners then have the final say on what the priorities are.

Our first ever winners

Alicia was voted 'Most Improved' by her peers citing huge improvements in her confidence over the past term. Raeya was voted 'Most Promising Newcomer'. Since joining The Song School this year, Raeya has swiftly integrated into her group, developed positive relationships with her peers and she performed alongside members at our Chinnerys gig, showcasing a rapid growth in confidence in a relatively short period of time.

Congratulations to Alicia and Raeya! 🌟 (pictured)

How are the categories and winners decided?

The award categories are decided by our Youth Mentor team. They define the categories in a way where anyone can win. All members are given the opportunity to vote via a secret ballot. These are then tallied up by the mentors who shortlist the top three then consider the reasons given for each of the top three to come to a unanimous decision on the winners.

We’re now looking forward to announcing the next two categories when we return to sessions in January. In the meantime, congratulations once again to Alicia and Raeya!
